In April 2021, Gabby was diagnosed with a Giant Cell Tumor on her spine that destroyed her T-11 vertebra. Two surgeries in the next few days were performed to remove the tumor, replace the T-11 vertebra, and put a cage in place to further support her vertebrae. During her ten days in the hospital, Gabby learned to sit up, stand, and eventually walk again. In March 2022, doctors determined that the cancer had returned to the original site and to her lungs. Due to the nature of this type of cancer, the lung lesions are inoperable and Gabby will need to undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy for the rest of her life. Her chemotherapy that she receives really takes a toll on her so the fact that she continues to play and make it to school is astounding. I have never met anyone as tough and determined as Gabby.

During the ‘21-’22 school year, she had to sit out of all sports after learning to walk again.

During the ‘21-’22 school year, she played volleyball and soccer.

This year she played volleyball, playing basketball and will play soccer.
